dumpster project

A project by Mac Premo.
He is a collagist, animator, commercial director and carpenter.
I love the stories of objects which are personal and interesting.

The similarity of his works and mine is arranging objects.
Although mine is more like 2D(flat and compressed) and his is in 3D(like interior arrangement),
I still fall for his way of arranging maybe by colors, shapes or materials within the space.

Simply couldn't resist the fascination of all these objects!!!

tutorial on 26.Sep and 03.Oct

Viewing the works from the first year and new photos took in this summer with Susanne on 26.Sep. Showing works to my tutorial group including William, Patricia and Alexandra on 03.Oct.

(The project of my owls' troop)

Although I put my photos into a body of works, it still lack of coherence. Some of them still can develop into different themes and create several story lines. Should I stick with the topic about relation between individual and group? Or should I create another fairytale-like images? Also, still thinking of letting people involve within the frame and react with my army of owls. Another important decision to make is that the format of my works. Am i going to show them in big size or make them into a book? It will also affect what format I should use to take photos.

Lots of decisions to make!

(The new project about my object collection)

The different attempt for the owl project. Inspired by arranging the objects i collect in front of  my camera. The idea started from my working and living experience in my country. It is not easy to make a living by working in creative industry as a photographer or designer there. We get lots of regulation and restriction need to obey but within this social limitation and expectation I still try my best to compose my beauty and happiness.

After tutorial with Susanne, I decided to use large format(4x5) to take this series of photos in order to print large. When those small scale objects become much bigger, i think it will give different meaning to those daily objects and convey different visual experience to audience.

The first thing is asking technician to teach me how to use the large format camera. Also, I have to keep collecting all kind of meaningful/meaningless treasure/trash at the same time.

I think I need to keep two projects going on at the same time.

14:30 / Portobello Beach

We hunted treasure and trash at the same time.
We walked barefoot and let cold water and sand washed our feet.
Blue sky, grey water, cool breeze and ivory sunshine.
Cookies, baguettes, mandarins and beer.

This is what a good afternoon should be!
